Frequently Asked Questions

you can reach me with any additional questions at tattooist.kc@gmail.com !

  • Per New York State law, you must be at least 18 years of age to get a tattoo, no exceptions! You must also not be pregnant/breastfeeding, taking any blood thinning medications, or ill at the time of your appointment. You will also have to travel to Yarrow Studio, we are based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn NY 11222 (full address and directions will be provided in a confirmation email should you choose to book) - the studio is accessible by a large freight elevator.

If this all sounds okay to you, simply fill out my booking form here to be considered for an appointment for the current booking period!

  • Custom tattoos start with your idea and through a collaborative process, I create a design that is uniquely tailored to you. Custom designs are done only the once for the client that requested it.

Flash tattoos are pre made designs that are ready to be picked and tattooed. My flash designs are repeatable with set sizing/pricing and are released every few months in sheets of 12-18 designs.

Pre drawn designs are also pre made, though larger and/or more detailed than flash designs. For that reason, they are either non repeatable or only repeatable 2-4 times (I will specify if a design is non repeatable). These are meant to be my portfolio pieces so I offer good rates for them!

All my tattoo designs are hand drawn.

  • Generally, I have a minimum of $200. Many of my small flash designs are priced at minimum or slightly under.  My minimum for custom projects is $250, $300 for high difficulty placements. I charge by individual piece rather than an hourly rate and will always provide a quote price (often a small range) for you in your offer email. I will never charge more than the highest end of the quote, given that we do not make changes that will significantly affect how long the session will take. Some more information on pricing below:

    Pricing for Customs

Pricing is entirely dependent on what your individual request looks like and will be determined by factors such as how detailed the design is, the size, and the placement. However, my minimum for custom projects is $250, $300 for high difficulty placements (ex. Ribs, stomach, feet/ankles) that take considerably longer and cause me more physical strain. As a general rule of thumb, most of the custom projects I take on that you see on my page were quoted $300-500. Booking a custom tattoo requires you to submit a $100 deposit.

    Pricing for Flash

My repeatable flash designs typically range from $150-250. Each sheet will have a price range and each design is marked with a colorful dot that correlates with where the design will fall on the price range. Pricing on flash is for set sizing and arms/legs placements but I’m always happy to upsize or take on a different placement for an upcharge. I give good discounts when you book multiple in one session in the first two months following when the sheet drops! Booking one flash tattoo requires you to submit a $50 deposit, $100 for a session with multiple designs.

    Pre Drawn Designs

Pre-drawn designs are larger and/or more detailed, typically priced $250-500. There’s a greater pricing range since it is largely dependent on the desired size/placement but they are priced lower than if someone were to have booked the same design as a custom inquiry.  Booking a pre drawn design requires you to submit a $100 deposit.

  • For customs, all of the information that I need from you will be asked for via my booking form. For larger, more complex projects I also offer virtual consultations. Unless you’re comfortable leaving a lot of the design decisions up to me, it’s important to be clear on what you’re looking for (ex. specifying what you like about specific reference images). I do customs in my own style and will not replicate another artist’s design/style.

Once a custom project is in the books, I will use your reference images to draw an original design for you. This often involves taking one specific reference image or a composite of several and drawing it on paper, rendered in pencil.

I will have your final design ready at the time of your appointment; I don't send out designs beforehand but any small changes or concerns about the design are welcome when you see it in person. However, if you have any very specific requests for how you want the design to look, that'll be very helpful and you are welcome to email me pretty much anytime up until ~3 days before the appointment (that's when I typically have the drawing done).

  • At the time of your appointment, come to the studio wearing something comfortable that allows access to your desired placement. Rest well the night before and eat beforehand, you’re welcome to bring some snacks if you’d like!

Moisturize well and keep hydrated in the week leading up to your tattoo appointment. I cannot tattoo over skin that is damaged in any way (sunburnt, scratched, wounded, heavy scar tissue). No need to shave but come clean and sober.

Leave ample time for your appointment, I can always provide a time estimate but things can always come up that lead us to take longer than expected! For payment, please bring cash if you can. Card payments will incur a processing fee.

  • I’ve been tattooing for 5 years and some change! I specialize in black & grey, fineline, illustrative renderings of plants and animals. I am still constantly learning and am endlessly grateful for the trust that my clients put in me and my work, thank you all sincerely.

  • I believe that tattooing is one of the most vulnerable services I’ve come to experience and should be treated as such. My job as your artist is not just to bring your idea to life but to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible every step of the way. I strongly encourage all my clients to ask questions, voice their concerns, and change their stencil placement as many times as they need!

  • If you’ve ever worked with me, you know I have quite the aftercare spiel at the end of our sessions. It’s entirely too much to write here but if you need a refresher, I’ve typed everything out in this aftercare guide!
